I have a hard time swallowing the way Jay Cottone fired Coach Fote after bringing both sports deep into the state tournament.
The kids liked and respected Coach Fote. Cottone has sunk into a bad area, when the parents start running the program , or pulling the strings of the athletic director, then good ole Wethersfield politics take over.
The time has come to look for a new athletic director with WHS sports in mind.
How can you fire a coach 1 week before the season. Last year around 80 kids tried out for baseball, to throw the program into a tail spin is mind boggling.
The parents need to let the coaches do their job and maybe realize their kids might not be that good.
Good luck Coach Fote and thanks for all you have done for WHS and the life lessons you have taught your players.

Welcome to Wethersfield sports where the parents are king and the kids are tools. Yes, tools for the parents to brag to their counterparts. When are we going to wake up and let the kids grow up? Are we that naive to believe a coach won’t play a kid if he or she is one of the best? Yes the best, at the high school level we only play the best, it’s no longer a training program. ( That goes for the parents too… they had their chance at little league and destroyed that program too)
I can’t wait till the little Jonny’s are on there own in their field of choice and they have to make their own decision. What do they do, call mommy for the decision.
That brings me to John Fote; why would he be forced out when the season is just starting? His review should have happened at the end of last season and not now. Thank God the administration for this town and school isn’t running my company.
Let’s face the facts: Fote is one of the best coaches this town has had, is he perfect? NO, but he sure gets the most out of every player. Can he be tough? YES, good we need that at this level and in this town.
John, If you are truly gone, I wish you the best…

I think it is fair to say Jay does not have his coaches back. Whatever happened to the coach making the calls.
Maybe the parents should realize it is time to let their kids talent speak for itself and let the coaches do their job.
Jay opened up a can of worms by letting the parents "fire Fote".
Maybe Jay can get all the parents on Nextel and when their kid gets taken out or they don't agree with the coach they can dial up Jay and he can dial up the dugout and fix everything.
If Jay can't fully do what we pay him to do, maybe it is time for him to "work on his own retirement program"

Now that Cottone's experiment has come to an end the time is now to look for a new athletic director and baseball coach.
Watching the tournament game today it is clear that this coach is not the future of WHS baseball. He stepped in a difficult situation the way Cottone discarded John Fote, but maybe he should stick with golf.

I think your on to something. It is time to find an athletic director that is doing what is right for the program. Jay is "stuck on stupid", when it comes to his so called "specialty" of sports he is CLUELESS!!!!!!!
And not to forget the baseball coach, from what I've seen he couldn't coach Little League!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I played for coach bags on last years team and will be a player for him this year, He is someone who should be respected and is a very good coach. He gets along with all his players but also gets us to work hard. He inherited a team last year a week before the season filled with a bunch of seniors that set bad examples for the younger players and the community. This years team is working hard and at least have respect for our coach. Coach bags cares for us and we wouldn't want to have anyone else leading us in the 2008 season. So stop knocking our coach!!!!
